Na caverna tenebrosa, na companhia das três feiticeiras, a Segunda Aparição diz a Macbeth que este não receberá a morte de ninguém "nascido de uma mulher".

Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn
The power of man, for none of woman born
Shall harm Macbeth.

De seguida, a Terceira Aparição promete a Macbeth que este não conhecerá a derrota enquanto a floresta não se puser em marcha contra si.

Be lion-mettled, proud; and take no care
Who chafes, who frets, or where conspirers are:
Macbeth shall never vanquish'd be until
Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill
Shall come against him.

Quando os soldados atacam o castelo de Macbeth, avançam ocultos atrás de ramos que seguram nas mãos.

MALCOLM:
Let every soldier hew him down a bough
And bear't before him: thereby shall we shadow
The numbers of our host and make discovery
Err in report of us.

E aquele que mata Macbeth não "nasceu", mas foi arrancado ao seio de sua mãe.

MACDUFF:
Despair thy charm;
And let the angel whom thou still hast served
Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother's womb
Untimely ripp'd.
